MyFastNote

Tap the widget, type, done

MyFastNote is a note app for the thoughts that will not wait: a phone number someone reads out, what was agreed on a call, an idea on the bus, a thing to do later. Tap the widget on your home screen, type, and leave. The note is saved. No title, no folder, no save button. Everything you write lands in one stream, newest at the bottom, like a chat with yourself.

The stream of notes in MyFastNote: a list of books, a call note, a parking spot, a thought, an urgent note in bold, a phone number and a link that can be tapped, and a gift checklist with 0 of 3 ticked, each with its date or time beside it.
  • 6
languages, from Czech and English to Portuguese
  • 4
colours to mark notes, each with a name of your own
  • 30
days a deleted note waits in the trash
  • 5
dated copies of your backup kept in its folder

What it does

  • Nothing to tap first

One tap on the widget opens a note card with the keyboard already up. Type and leave with Back, a tap outside or Home, and the note is saved. The card loads nothing before it appears, an empty card saves nothing, and there is no Save button.

  • Write from anywhere

The home-screen widget, a Quick Settings tile, a Write a note shortcut on the app icon, and an optional notification you can write into, even on the lock screen. Share text from any app or select it anywhere, or dictate with the microphone on the widget when your hands are busy.

  • One stream, newest at the bottom

Notes written close together become one record; a pause starts a new one, 20 minutes unless you choose otherwise. Times are shown where they help and never written into your text, long notes fold to a preview with … more, and merge and split put a record right.

  • Mark what matters

Four colours and bold. Name the colours, such as urgent, work or home, and the names appear under the dots. A colour can add a checkbox to its notes by itself.

  • Checklists, formatting and links

Add a checkbox with one tap and tick it later in the stream; a list shows how far it has got, such as 2/5. Bullets, bold and italic, and lists that continue when you press Enter. Links, email addresses, phone numbers and dates in a note can be tapped.

  • Find it again

Search as you type, with the matches highlighted; accents and capitals are ignored, and quotes and a minus narrow it. Filter by colour, bold, open to-dos or notes with a link, number or date, and hide what is done. A month calendar marks the days you wrote.

  • Tidy up without fear

Long-press a note to copy, share, merge, split, recolour or delete it, or select several and copy, share or export them together. Swipe a note away to delete it: Undo is offered, and deleted notes wait in the trash for 30 days.

  • Your notes as plain Markdown

Choose a folder once and the app writes all notes there as one Markdown file when you leave it, at most once an hour, with five dated copies beside it. Export everything or a date range, and import the file on a new phone.

  • Your notes stay yours

No account, no cloud, no ads, no tracking, and no internet access at all. Your notes are left out of Google's cloud backup on purpose. An optional lock asks for your fingerprint or PIN, and writing from the widget stays instant.

A look at the app

Good to know

  • The app is in English, Czech, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Pinch to make the text larger or smaller, or choose Small, Medium or Large in Settings. The app follows your phone's light or dark theme.
  • No account, no cloud, no ads, no tracking. The app has no internet access at all.
  • Dictation uses your phone's own speech recognition. MyFastNote itself has no microphone permission and records no sound.
  • It runs on Android 10 and newer.

MyFastNote leaves out folders, tags, reminders, attachments and sync on purpose. It does one thing: it gets a thought out of your head and into writing, right now.

Questions and answers

How do I start a new note?

You do not have to. Write, and the app starts a new record by itself when more than the pause you set has passed since the newest one was begun (20 minutes at first), when the day has changed, or when you pick a colour or bold that the newest record does not have. Otherwise your text is added to the newest record as a new line. If you want a new record at once, tap New note in the app.

Where are my notes kept?

On your phone, in the app's own storage. The app has no permission to use the internet and sends nothing to us. The notes are also left out of the backup Android makes to your Google account. A copy leaves the phone when you choose a backup folder, export a file or share a note; the privacy policy has the details.

How do I move my notes to a new phone?

On the old phone, choose a backup folder in Settings or use Export everything in the three-dot menu. That gives you one Markdown file. Copy it to the new phone and use Import from file in Settings there. Import skips notes that are already present, so importing the same file twice does no harm.

Can I lock my notes?

Yes. Lock the notes in Settings makes the app ask for your fingerprint or your phone's PIN before it shows them. Writing from the widget, the Quick Settings tile and the notification still works without unlocking, and the widget stops showing note text. The lock does not encrypt the notes, and backup and export files are plain text.

What if I delete a note by mistake?

Tap Undo, which is offered at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds. After that the note waits in the Trash in Settings for 30 days, where you can restore it. What cannot be undone is Delete all notes, and Delete forever and Empty trash in the trash itself.

Does it have folders, tags or reminders?

No, on purpose. There is one stream of notes. Four colours, search, filters and a calendar are how you find things. There are no reminders, no sync, no accounts and no pictures or attachments.

What does it cost?

Nothing. MyFastNote is free. There is nothing to buy in the app, no subscription and no advertisements.
